Reading Specialist
Hello my name is Gigi Lundgren.
I have worked as the Reading Specialist St. Ignatius since 2015. I am certified in the Orton-Gillingham method for teaching reading. We have a terrific staff, and we truly enjoy working alongside each other to educate our students.
As the reading specialist at St. Ignatius my role is to support the classroom teachers in grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the area of literacy. This includes reading, (especially for comprehension and vocabulary) phonemic awareness, spelling, and writing composition.
Our model is one where I co-teach with the classroom teacher. The beauty of the co-teaching is that we (the classroom teacher/myself) work collaboratively to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students in order for them to meet the expectations of the Common Core State Standards. This can happen in a small group, half the class, or whole group instruction. We cater our methods of instruction to match the need of the class. The end result is that the students who need the extra instruction in an area receive it, and there is not a “stigma” placed on a child for working with the Reading Specialist because I work with everyone.
