Fourth Grade
Dear departing fourth grade students and families,
I cannot believe the school year is over. I will always remember you as the class that exceeded my expectations over and over again. You are also the class that I spent my fortieth year in education teaching.
I had so much fun making up math stories, songs, and dances with you. Thank you for laughing at all of my jokes, even the really silly ones. Thank you for playing along with all of my crazy math stories. You made teaching and learning math so much fun.
I enjoyed learning about the Oregon Trail with you. It was fun reading Bound for Oregon, and then Orphaned on the Oregon Trail. As I reread this paragraph I realize how crazy it sounds to say I enjoyed reading about children who were orphaned not once, but twice…
Doing Mystery Science with you was a highlight. I learned just as much as you did doing the activities. It was also fun to watch the Mystery Science Mini Lessons with you. I was impressed by how often you came up with the correct answers to some of the questions. I also appreciated your willingness to share your ideas knowing you might not be right.
You covered a lot of ground in math this year. You completed the fourth grade curriculum by the end of May. Good job!
Speaking of covering a lot of ground, you read a record number of guided reading books this year. Did you know that? I had to buy more books so you had more options. Keep up the reading!
Remember when our classroom flooded and you all got a bonus day off of school?
Remember when we went to La Salle to watch the Sound of Music?
Remember that Wednesday when we left Mass and the ground was covered in snow and we got the rest of the week off? (Are most of our memories going to be about missing school?)
Remember the cold and miserable Field Day?
How about the Read-Ins?
Remember drawing maps of Oregon?
Divide, multiply, subtract, bring down, and start all over again, ding dong, ding dong…
Remember Art Lit?
How about listening to A Little Princess and watching the movie?
It was fun learning about bees.
Playing recorder during the Easter Mass was a highlight.
Remember the cringy math videos?
Have a wonderful summer vacation. Take time to just right read a book with words every day. See if you can squeeze in some math work on Freckle.
Don’t forget to say hi to me as you wander past my room from the fifth grade and when you are in middle school!
I will miss you!
