Creating A Safe Environment- C.A.S.E.
Our Archdiocesan safety training requirements are in full effect and include training on the topic of child sexual abuse prevention and a background check for all school volunteers.
What does the training include?
Praesidium’s C.A.S.E. training teaches parents, families, and people who work with children how they can keep children safe from sexual abuse.
Part 1: Creating a Safe Environment (C.A.S.E.) for Parents and Families
Teaches parents what they must know to protect their own children
Part 2: Creating a Safe Environment (C.A.S.E) for Ministries
Teaches Praesidium's five-step approach to operating safe programs
Who should attend the training sessions?
Parents that wish to enter the building for any reason other than office business; Including, but not limited to volunteering in the classroom/library, chaperoning field trips, having lunch with your child, monitoring lunch recess, or serving lunch. This training provides valuable information for keeping your child and our school community safe. After your initial in-person C.A.S.E. training, you will login to an account created for you through Praesidium to read and sign the “Standards of Conduct.” You will be sent a background check link via email that must be completed.
St. Ignatius has at least two scheduled sessions annually.
The next training session is:
Wednesday, September 13, 2023, 6:30-8:30pm
Please see the Archdiocese of Portland’s website (https://archdpdx.org/child-protection-victim-assistance) for a list of current session dates, times, and locations. All parent volunteers, who have not previously attended training, must attend one of these in-person training sessions. Each session will include the complete Creating a Safe Environment (C.A.S.E) for Parents and Families and for Ministries training.

Yearly Updates
What if I have already completed the initial in-person training?
To update you skills regarding current research and help recall the boundaries and suggestions for keeping your children safe from sexual abuse, the Archdiocese has chosen the Praesidium program for annual update training. This is a follow up to the initial Creating a Safe Environment training to be completed annually, along with keeping a current background check on file.
To complete your annual update, open a web browser online and go to Praesidium Log In. Enter your log in and password. Your login is the first initial of your first name and your full last name. Your password is the four numerical digits of your birth month and day, followed by your state abbreviation. The training and online updates provide valuable information for keeping your child and our school community safe. If you have any questions please contact Julie Frangipani.
